My DSLR and binos were just put loose in the bag and did not get damaged from any of the shocks (and there were lots of hard bounces). There was also rain that was not able to penetrate. The shoulder straps were great and allowed easy toting (I was used to traditional dry bags with the roll over top and buckles). There was also a D-clip on each should strap which were great for attaching water bottles and other gear that I wanted to keep close at hand.
